Artist Statement

 

In  a world where human choices perpetuate patterns of violence and  oppression, establish systems of inequity, reduce human beings to mere  consumers, and normalize community disconnect, my artistic practice  seeks to be life affirmative in how I explore and create experiences  that exist as counter narratives to forces of destruction and  dehumanization.  I work within community spheres to foster connectivity,  genuine exchange, inspire discourse about joy and hope, and reiterate  the preciousness of all human beings.  Through the use of play, social  interactivity, object making, material connotation, historical and political reference, and artistic experimentation, I choose to work in  creative collaboration with others to discover and implement strategies that realize a waiting re-humanized world.

    Tree of Life: Interactive work, project documentary

    Tree of Life: project documentary. This project was created for the ELCA's Rocky Mountain Synod annual assembly. As a collaborative effort among assembly participants across 5 states, people submitted messages and prayers on pieces of bark and leaves to be featured on the tree as the main centerpiece for the gathering. The film details the project experience.

    The Tire Swing Project: Interactive work, video documentary

    The Tire Swing Project was created as an initiative to interrupt structured space with an element of play and serendipity; and to examine the parameters by which we choose to move through the world. Approximately 100 tire swings were hung overnight in various places of downtown Denver. This film is a documentation of what happened with the project.
